A paraphrase of the Scripture of Romans 8:26-27 might be this: The Holy Spirit helps our infirmities because we don’t know what we should pray for as we should. But the Holy Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with sounds that cannot be uttered. He that searches our hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
I am so thankful for the Holy Spirit!
That holy, glorious Spirit of God lives in us, His blood-bought children, and is our constant companion, helper, guide, and friend. He knows the heart of God and is always making intercession for us according to the will of God.
Sometimes the human heart is confronted with such overwhelming and devastating life circumstances that an eloquent prayer is not possible. Our crushed spirit within us can only cry out with deep emotions of grief or pain. There are times when we even feel paralyzed and unable to even function on any kind of useful level. When we are so overcome that we don’t even know how to pray, these groans are the language of the Holy Spirit and are taken by Him straight to the Father’s heart, where they are interpreted with great power by the Holy Spirit on our behalf. We don’t have to worry that our words are inadequate and they don’t convey perfectly worded speeches.
This ministry of the Holy Spirit is one of the great gifts given to us by God; the Holy Spirit lives in us and is constantly there for us, interpreting our sometimes less-than-perfect prayers into eloquent, powerful requests that the Father always hears. He helps our infirmities, which are those places within us that are weak and frail, and delivers up to God perfect prayers filled with perfect strength and substance.
