Although different businesses offer different courier deliver and pick-up truck services – with varied names and descriptions – but the concept of all these types pretty much remain the same, i.e. to offer the customers numerous options, with different costs and time-duration constraints. Knowing these different types will help a customer to decide which package suits his needs in the best possible manner. While, on the other hand, a courier business must know and have these different types of courier services, so as to facilitate their customers with as much options and packages as possible.
1. Standard Delivery:
The standard delivery is the most common type of courier services offered by courier and transportation businesses. This type of delivery – depending upon the nature of your package and distance to your delivery point – can take up to 1-3 days. The standard delivery mode, which is also commonly known as the ‘next day courier service’, does not require any extra charges. If the company gives an insurance or guarantee for lost or broken items, the standard delivery will usually cover that too. However, it is still wise to first read the company’s policy. Although each courier company will have different policies for their standard deliveries, but the usual time-frame required is around 24-48 hours.
2. Same Day Deliveries:
‘Same day deliveries’ is another common type of courier service, which is very commonly used by hospitals, medical stores, law and accounting businesses. If you want to send a package to someone within the next 12-24 hours, then you should be using this mode over the standard delivery. As the standard delivery mode can take up to 2-3 business, the same-day option can facilitate you by delivering your item on the very day you place the order. However, it is important to note that this type of courier service is usually more expensive than the standard delivery.
3. Express or Rush Hour Deliveries:
We have many different names for this type of delivery method, but express delivery mode or rush hour delivery method are some of the most common ones. This is one of those types of delivery methods that are used in extreme emergency situations.
Express or Rush Hour deliveries charge you the most, when compared with the above-mentioned two delivery modes. Moreover, the time-duration required is usually up to a couple of hours. In some countries and states, a variance of this mode of delivery is known as the ‘Bike Courier’. Companies have special people assigned for express deliveries, who deliver the item on their bikes – within the specified time frame.
4. International Courier:
Not every courier company can afford this option, but larger businesses have the facility of sending couriers internationally. As the name suggests itself, this type of delivery refers to sending customers’ packages to a foreign land. The cost is understandably higher and it also requires more than a couple of days to finally deliver the package. However, larger courier organizations, in order to facilitate their clients, offer the International Express and International Standard distinction.
